JAPANESE INVESTORS SEE SERGAI FOR BIO DIESEL INDUSTRY
Serdang Bedagai Regency as one of the great producers of cassava in North Sumatra has been considered by the Japanese investors to invest their capital in the cassava raw material industry establishment. It was known when the Regent of Sergai, HT. Erry Nuradi, received the group of Japanese entrepreneurs. The chairman of Nippon Bio diesel Fuel Co. Ltd (NBF) Kazuo Sambongi, the manager of NBF, Katsuyasu Yoh and Lim Kok Kuan, the General Manager’s assistant of PT. Kanematsu Corp. Shigeki Yamane as the consultant and the chairman of PT. Sumber Trijaya Odjahan GS as the local partner in Indonesia. In front of The Regent, the Director Plantation Department Manager of NBF Kazuo Sambongi reveals that based on the previous survey, Sergai Regency has a great potential in the cassava farming.
According to Kazuo, by using the technology owned by NBF this time, cassava can be processed into one of energy sources called bio diesel. Therefore, PT. NBF with its partner in Indonesia, PT. Sumber Trijaya, plans to establish a bio diesel industry in Sergai Regency. The technology applied is the processing of cassava commodity to be bio diesel energy. The cassava which will be processed to be the bio diesel energy will be supplied and expanded for an intensive plantation. The expansion of cassava plantation needs a large and suitable land. In front of the Japanese entrepreneurs, the Regent also said that the agricultural potential including the cassava farming in Sergai was great enough i.e. 6.500 hectares of which the products achieved approximately 1.650 tons. A lot of tapioca industries in Sergai become the cassava accomodation, moreover, when the bio diesel factory of which the raw material is cassava is established, the community and the cassava farmers will welcome it positively since their cassava will be more competitive.
