Berhala Island is actually an area consisting of three Islands. The main Island which is the accommodation location and where the light house is built has a dense forest. The big trees like Rengat, Jeluntung and Meranti crowd this 50.000 M2 Island. In the forest, live many kinds of animals such as Napu (a kind of mouse-deer), Tortoise, Snakes, and others. The unique thing about this Island is the certain seasons when many kinds of birds crowd the Island. The Tortoises always swim ashore to lay eggs. They dig the sand until one meter deep and keep their eggs there. Due to the great number of tortoises, we can find their traces on the beach sand. The second Island is the small Berhala Island which is situated the nearest to the main Island. This Island joins the main Island occasionally, depending on the tidal wave. Here is the most beautiful diving snorkeling location. This location extends along the coastline towards the pier on the main Island. At the depth of 10 meters, the sea floor can be seen clearly. In the clear water, we can find a colorful park with algaes, seaweed, and colorful reefs in their natural condition. Among them, groups of fish swim in their typical movement. Because of its beauty, a number of divers claim that this underwater park is equal with the one in the long Island Maldives (Maladewa) in Southern India, Nusa Penida in Bali, Maluku Waters, as well as, Rubiah Island in Sabang, Aceh. It is also supported the collection of unique and rare marine life such as ketam kelapa, kima raksasa, and bulu ayam fish.
The diving activity can be done up to 10 meters deep, using the diving equipment which can be rented on the location. The third Island is about 50 meters far from the main Island and we must use a boat to reach it. It is very interesting to take a walk into the cave penetrating a hill on the Island. A half apart of the cave’s hole is filled with water while the upper part becomes the swallow’s nest. The water around this Island is the deepest and the steepest. Almost the whole hill consists of giant stones which, through a natural process, from a typical pattern. To see the photographs of this location, please click ‘Sergai in Photos’ content.
